SUMMARY:

Based on the polysemy of the concept of life (COUTINHO, MORTIMER & NIÑO EL-HANI, 2007), this work aims to carry out an epistemological discussion about this concept, establishing a dialogue between popular culture, represented by popular knowledge, especially religious, and the scientific perspective, in order to bring contributions to the teaching of science and expand the discussions carried out on this concept, since it is one of the basic pillars of science. Given the pandemic context experienced in the period of development of this dissertation, the methodology used consisted of a literature review on the existing definitions of life and the application of structured online interviews with basic education science teachers, in order to raise the conceptions of life that circulate in schools to, later, establish a dialogue of these with the popular perspective. The conceptions will also be used for the elaboration of an animated video that will be configured in a didactic resource to assist in the realization of debates about the concept of life in the science classrooms.
