FITTING THE PIECES TOGETHER: PATHWAYS FOR THE INTEGRATED MANAGEMENT OF CONSERVATION UNITS IN THE MASSIF GERICINÓ-MENDANHA
Conservation Unit Mosaic; Conservation Unit; Gericinó-Mendanha Massif.
The Mosaics of Conservation Units, present in the National System of Conservation Units, can exist when Conservation Units that are close, overlapping or juxtaposed perform integrated and participatory management among themselves, which helps in the administration of territories and in the protection of fauna and of the flora. In this way, the general objective of this research is to develop paths for the creation of an integrated management between the Conservation Units present in the Massif Gericinó-Mendanha, an emblematic figure in the landscape of those who study and work at the Federal Rural University of Rio de Janeiro. There are a total of eight units in different categories, groups and spheres of management, each at a different level of implementation. We will map the potential of the Units, as well as whether they have a management plan and their own management. Our work is based on a dialectical approach and is based primarily on the concepts of territory, essential for the study and delimitation of Conservation Units, public use, which varies between the different categories of Units, and integrated management, one of the main points about the Mosaics. In addition, we will research existing Mosaics in the state of Rio de Janeiro to understand the challenges and paths to be followed, as well as field work between the Units to understand their particularities and interviews with managers based on Critical Discourse Analysis, which emphasizes discourse as a social practice. In view of the various perspectives mentioned, we hope to pave the way for the implementation of a Mosaic of Conservation Units in the Massif Gericinó-Mendanha so that the conservation of the territories is maintained and improved, helping in the environmental recovery so devastated present in this fragment of Atlantic forest.
