The resumption of the Barrinha train between the Metropolitan Area of Rio de Janeiro and the
Paraíba valley: challenges and potential.
spatial interaction; passenger train; Rio de Janeiro interior, Barrinha.
This work seeks to debate the potential and challenges of resuming the Barrinha, a passenger train that promoted spatial interaction between the municipalities of Japeri, Paracambi, Engenheiro Paulo de Frontin, Mendes and Barra do Piraí. In addition to the issue of railway operations, Barrinha was part of the daily dynamics of the urban and rural population in its area of influence, and its eradication in 1996 influenced several issues, such as staying in the countryside and urban growth. The Barrinha route passes through three regions of the state of Rio de Janeiro, the Metropolitan Region, Center-South and the Middle Vale of Paraíba, and its resumption is worked on in this dissertation as a potential in different areas, enabling a fluid interaction.
