In March 2020, classes at the Federal Rural University of Rio de Janeiro (UFRRJ) were suspended due to the pandemic caused by COVID-19. In two years of social distancing, classes take place remotely in different web environments. Between 2020 and 2021, for the first time UFRRJ received new students who had no physical contact with the university. And now, how to introduce new students to this academic landscape of the main campus of UFRRJ? Photography is one of the best ways to describe the landscape as it expresses a lot of information beyond the text. Photography also adds values in cartographic communication, including creating affective sensations. Therefore, this work aims to evaluate whether StoryMaps performs the function of adding value to new entrants even in a virtual way, awakening a feeling of belonging, from geovisualization having access to images and more relevant information about the UFRRJ campus, in Seropédica/RJ. In the field of geovisualization and cartographic communication, it was decided to develop the methodology with the ArcGIS StoryMaps tool. The UFRRJ online mapping process on the ESRI platform was due to the complexity of the resources offered. The ArcGIS online platform combines mapping and data analytics to provide location intelligence and meet digital transformation needs. Thus, photographic records of 46 selected points of interest were collected. In addition to the photographic collection, textual references were gathered on the UFRRJ portal and added to StoryMaps. This information was added to help guide the main spaces and buildings on the campus. The StoryMaps construction process was completed with the publication of the link: https://linktr.ee/storymapsgeo and the online mapping can now be viewed and consequently shared. In the last one, the exploratory research served to evaluate the control of the ArcGIS StoryMaps tool, preparing an online training in the google form, applied to the students, with the return of the classes, making it possible to statistically observe the positive notes that this cartographic communication can to offer. In this sense, we sought to interpret the potential that photography and geography offered with this cartographic product of StoryMaps. Thus, using photography associated with cartography to allow a guided orientation on the UFRRJ campus. However, it's not just about location. The aim is to mitigate this new configuration of following access to distance education, enrich the experience with relevant information about the activities carried out in each selected space, in addition to seeking to awaken affection from photographic records that highlight the natural beauties and the historic buildings on the campus, recognized as one of the most beautiful in the country.
