DYNAMICS OF SUSCEPTIBILITY TO THE OCCURRENCE OF FIRE IN WEST METROPOLITAN FLUMINENSE

The phenomenon of fire in vegetation is often linked to anthropic causes, especially in biomes with forest vegetation

 with more humid characteristics, such as the Atlantic Forest. For the study of this theme, some databases such as 

hotspots from the Fire Database (INPE, 2022), Fire Collection (Mapbiomas, 2021) help in the identification, 

measurement and analysis of areas of greater occurrence, and can also be compared with variables such as 

vegetation characteristics, conservation units found in these locations, population concentration, among other 

indicators at different scales that may point to possible causes of fires and their effects. This work has as general 

objective to carry out the analysis of fires in the Metropolitan West region of the state of Rio de Janeiro (OMRJ), 

which has among its characteristics the occurrence of undergrowth, such as grasses widely used for pasture, 

which in addition to being associated with the human consumption in land use, also have greater combustibility 

potential. As a specific objective, it aims to build, using geotechnological tools, a dynamics of susceptibility to the 

occurrence of fires in the region. For this, land use and land cover mapping will be used, referring to the years 

2000, 2010 and 2020, based, respectively, on images from the Landsat-5 and CBERS-4A satellites. In addition, 

matrix data of global solar radiation and slope curvature will be added, obtained from the Digital Elevation 

Model generated through data from contour lines and points quoted from the 1:25,000 IBGE base. It is hoped 

to obtain with this study, the changes that have occurred in the areas of susceptibility over the years, as well 

as to raise indicators that may have contributed to these changes.
