SUMMARY:

The present dissertation aims to reflect on the transformations of contemporary capitalism and their implications on the world of work, using the food delivery company, iFood, as an empirical reference. The methodological approach adopted involved a literature review, as well as the analysis of documents, reports, and official information available on iFood's electronic platforms. Through this study, it was possible to comprehend recent changes in the world of work, particularly from the perspective of companies operating in the gig economy with the essential driving force of Artificial Intelligence, such as iFood.It was identified that, in this new scenario, the use of Artificial Intelligence has become indispensable for the majority of companies aiming to be competitive in the current landscape, both in the virtual and physical realms. However, far from being a tool that will help workers, it will be a tool that will replace or intensify the work relationships of the workers themselves. Therefore, in contrast to more common perceptions, the crisis in the world of work manifests itself in a complex and multifaceted manner, not limited to issues of unemployment or informality, but rather in its own self-destructive structure. The profile of iFood workers demonstrates that many of them are caught in a logic of precarious or informal employment. Thus, this study contributes to the understanding of surveillance capitalism and its implications on the structure of contemporary work.
