SUMMARY:

Tourism is an important social practice that develops in geographic space. It is a phenomenon that modifies, transforms and creates a huge variety of spaces, thus offering different possibilities for tourist destinations. When choosing a place to travel, the tourist travels and pays to see a tourist product, which is characterized mainly by the offer of attractions, but also by tourist services/equipment, tourism support services/equipment and basic infrastructure. Tourist attractions can be natural or cultural, and in this wide range of possibilities, experiential tourism has been increasingly encouraged, especially after the COVID-19 pandemic. Thus, the dissertation focuses more specifically on the production and commercialization of cachaça in the municipality of Vassouras, initially, as it is an important cultural heritage of the country, in addition to establishing itself as one of the tourist offerings in the tourist region of Vale do Café, 120 kilometers away from the state capital. Cachaça as an intangible heritage, brings with it ways of knowing and doing, its history, modes of consumption and sociability; having a strong presence both in Vassouras and throughout the region. It is also worth highlighting the holding of fairs and meetings of cachaça collectors, and the production of the delicacy in the municipality with national and international relevance. Given this, the research seeks to analyze the production and commercialization of cachaça in the municipality of Vassouras, which has been consolidating itself as an important historical-cultural heritage and tourist attraction in Vale do Café, RJ. To achieve this, the research takes place in three stages: presentation of the current Vassouras tourist product and future perspectives; interviews with residents, producers and exhibitors of cachaça, which demonstrate the importance of the drink in attracting tourists to the municipality; and proposal for a tourist promotion itinerary that involves cachaçarias and the cachaça fair. The results make it clear that the creation of the Rota da Cachaça de Vassouras is an effective strategy for the integration and organization of attractions, equipment, tourist services, tourism support and infrastructure. The route, when developed through an associative culture, provides complementarity and integration between the various tourist enterprises, consolidating itself as another tourist offer in the Vassouras destination.
