SUMMARY:

It is assumed that Geography teaching in Elementary School should prioritize students' living environment, considering that this can favor their critical reading of reality. In this direction, the present research aims to raise and analyze the landscape potential of the municipality of Japeri-RJ to contribute as a subsidy to Geography teaching for sixth-grade students in the municipal public school system. From the negative stigma and depreciative speeches of the students themselves, that Japeri is "ugly", the research question was created: Is it possible to change the negative perception and make classes more interesting using Japeri's landscapes? Considering that it is a peripheral municipality of Baixada Fluminense and there is a shortage of didactic materials about this place to be worked on in the classroom, the analysis of local landscape elements is sought to be used didactically, since using the lived space and the students' daily lives proves to be more effective for understanding and learning spatiality. The methodology is based on the Research-Teaching of Penteado (2010), as it deals with the desire for transformation of personal praxis and the investigation of the teaching-learning process; there will be application and subsequent analysis of a questionnaire with sixth-grade students to understand their perception of the municipality; next, it is intended to develop and apply activities using Japeri's landscapes through the geotechnology Storymap of ArcGis Hub. The theoretical framework uses landscape in the Cultural Geography perspective in Sauer (1925), Berque (1984), Cosgrove (1989), considering their conceptions of perception, human experiences, and meanings. In addition, support is provided by Yi-Fu Tuan (1980) regarding the concept of place, as it deals with the affective and sentimental relationship with the living place, that is, Topophilia. It is expected as a result that the pedagogical practices implemented in the future translate into more meaningful activities for students, providing them with a better understanding of Geography content, as well as greater engagement and interest.
