During the period of social isolation caused by the COVID-19 pandemic, housing has taken on a central role in our daily lives: living, working, studying and leisure have all come together in one place. The domestic space has ceased to be a place of rest and has become the place where life happens. With the acquisition of this new status, people have begun to reflect on how much the environment in which they live has an impact on the quality of life of the individual and how much the characteristics of this environment influence the perception of well-being. The type of property occupied, the size of the built area, the location of the property, access to natural elements, the availability of nearby goods and services, the price paid to have access to housing and even the possibility of having a space where it is possible to exercise one's individuality have become more important in idealizing the housing that would best meet personal desires. The interest in talking about the functional properties of UFRRJ and the impact they have on the quality of life of the employee occupying these properties arose during this period. The “Rural houses”, as they are known among the University’s employees, still retain characteristics that date back to their creation and that go beyond the architecture of the building. Talking about these properties is also talking about the University, since the history of these houses is intertwined with the history of the Institution.
The general objective of this study is to identify the factors that influenced UFRRJ employees to choose to live in a National Residential Building of the Federal Rural University of Rio de Janeiro and how they perceive the quality of life in the location where these PNRs are located.
