The dissertation's general objective is to analyze the environmental perception of different generations about the socio-spatial transformations occurring on the beaches of Ilha do Governador. This study seeks to understand how different age groups interpret and evaluate the environmental and social changes that have impacted these areas over time, considering the importance of these perceptions for the planning and sustainable management of urban space. The research focuses on collecting historical accounts and memories of older residents of Ilha do Governador. Through interviews and their analysis through Discursive Textual Analysis (ATD) by (Moraes; Galiazzi, 2011), it will be possible to reconstruct the history of beaches from the perspective of those who directly experienced these transformations. These reports are fundamental to understanding environmental and social changes in a contextualized way. The choice of these two beaches was motivated by their notable and contrasting differences. São Bento Beach, located at the entrance to Ilha do Governador, is one of the first to be seen by those arriving in the region. This beach has few visitors, including residents and visitors, which may be due to its limited infrastructure. On the other hand, Praia da Bica is located in a prime area of Ilha do Governador. With a more robust infrastructure, this beach has a variety of services and amenities, including kiosks, restaurants and leisure areas, which makes it extremely popular among local residents.
