Climate change represents one of the main challenges of the 21st century, with rising global temperatures and the occurrence of extreme weather phenomena, such as heat waves, the subject of this dissertation. The dissertation "Heat Waves in Nova Iguaçu: Analysis of General Data and Their Impacts in the Health Area between 2018 and 2024" addresses the intersection between climate change, heat waves and the impacts on the population's health, with a specific focus on the municipality of Nova Iguaçu, RJ. Understanding climate and health patterns is essential for implementing preventive measures and adaptation and mitigation, with a view to protecting the health of the city's citizens. In addition to analyzing the importance of meteorological data using remote sensing to explore the main areas of the municipality affected by heat waves. The general objective of the research is to analyze the episodes and processes correlated with the formation of heat waves in the period from 2018 to 2024 and their consequences for the population in the municipality of Nova Iguaçu, RJ. It used a literature review on the effects of heat waves on public health, highlighting the importance of understanding these phenomena in order to implement preventive and adaptation measures. Meteorological and health data were used to assess the relationship between climatic events and hospital admissions in Nova Iguaçu, in addition to the use of LANDSAT 8/9 satellite images for the spatialization and verification of heat waves. There has been an increase in heat wave episodes in recent years, partly due to the contribution of climate change, fires, land use and occupation, among others. There is a lack of meteorological data for the municipality of Nova Iguaçu, which had its first weather station with public data in 2021.
