SUMMARY:

Quilombola education has been gaining ground in the Brazilian educational scenario, mainly due to the demands that these people have brought, and thus geography teaching must adapt to the needs of providing differentiated education. It is extremely important to work with students, aspects of their daily lives, their culture, and references that they already know. There are many ways to think about/practice differentiated education, considering its discontinuities in the school environment in dialogue with the territorial dynamics themselves. Based on the above and because there is still a process for implementing a differentiated curriculum, a series of workshops was proposed with children and adolescents from Quilombo do Bracuí - Angra dos Reis/RJ, rescuing some aspects to be worked on and aiming to investigate the engagement of this young audience in relation to their history, culture, and geography. The workshops were held with the aim of articulating community knowledge with geography teaching based on playful methodologies, such as fieldwork, memory games, drawing, mental maps, etc. during school holidays with an audience made up of quilombola and non-quilombola children/adolescents. In any case, the set of approaches aroused in the young people numerous relationships with what was learned in the school space, however the local references brought particular perceptions.
