Geographic Voices: survey on the trajectory of Black Geographies in academic journals from 2018-2023.
Black Geographies; Black Intellectuals; Geographical Education; Knowledge From Within.
The centrepiece of this work is Black Geographies in the Brazilian context, which stands out for its understanding of raciality as a basic element of geographical construction. It is a black racial approach that seeks to reflect on race and geographical production in an affirmative-positive way. This research will focus on Black Geographies and their impact on geographical education. In our construction, we will use the perspective of knowledge from within (García, 2012), which is close to the perspective of Black Geographies because, for both, the black individual is the producer of knowledge about black issues. The relevance of education is demonstrated by the quantity of materials aimed at the educational perspective, and this can be analysed in the light of the strength of the implementation of Law 10.639/03. This dynamic is also related to the stance of the Brazilian Black Movement and black intellectuals who, within their fields of activity, have remained firm and sought the means to ensure that the
advances of the Brazilian black population are constant and guaranteed. In addition, the production of geographical knowledge must reflect the reality experienced by black communities, bringing up issues of social justice and equity. Such approaches have had a positive impact on geography teaching in Brazil, encouraging the formation of citizens who are more aware and engaged in the fight against racial inequality.
