Representations of the feminine in the carnival of the suburbs of Rio de Janeiro.
Samba, Corporeality, Territory, Photography
This research project, Samba in Intendente, a place of convergence of diverse territorialities: Representations of the feminine in the carnival of the suburbs of Rio de Janeiro, consists of analyzing the importance of samba as a form of expression of the Afro-Brazilian population, focusing on the samba schools that perform on Estrada Intendente Magalhães and highlighting the participation of women in these groups. To conduct the research, a qualitative approach will be used, based on existing bibliographies, data collection in relevant institutions and field research with interviews. The project is an offshoot of the process of visual investigation, through photography that I have been doing as a Visual Artist since 2016 in the concentration of samba schools of the access group. During the carnival period, the place becomes a convergence of cultural references of the samba community, hence the interest in addressing the theme. Such issues, due to their great breadth and diversity, will not be addressed in their multiplicity; however, I hope that the research will allow for the development of questions and analyses about the importance of samba, its developments in the suburbs of Rio de Janeiro and its occupation of the city.
