The objective of this dissertation is to expand discussions on the need for effective trail management for sociobiodiversity conservation in the Mário Xavier National Forest (Flona MX), located in the municipality of Seropédica, in the State of Rio de Janeiro, recognizing potential areas for implementing trails in the conservation unit, in order to contribute to its Public Use Plan. The methodology is based on action research, and is developed through the elaboration of mini-courses on participatory trail mapping, where the management of the UC, university and society can collectively contribute to a proposal for a new arrangement for the public use of trails in the conservation unit (UC). At the end of each short course, which will include a theoretical part and fieldwork (territorial praxis) for the application of rapid assessment protocols (PAR) and qualitative and quantitative questionnaires, a consultation will be held with the UC team to prepare an inventory of all mapped trails, with the delimitations of zones where the trails have potential for developing eco-pedagogical activities, in addition to indicating which areas are most sensitive to public use, indicating only for environmental monitoring, in order not to harm the ecosystem dynamics. After the survey, the collected data will serve as a basis for the construction of the map and inventory of the UC's trails and paths. The methodology also includes a bibliographic review on the history of public use of the Mário Xavier National Forest and the importance of managing visitation activities in UCs in a controlled and planned manner. One of the main reasons for choosing Flona Mário Xavier is its ecological relevance, as it is home to endemic species typical of sedimentary lowland environments (Lowland Ombrophilous Forest). It also has a management plan that needs to be implemented, as well as the management of public use, given the increase in visitors in recent years and the need to discuss conservation issues with society. Based on the mapping survey, it will be presented to the unit's management board for approval, in order to become a guiding product for the management of public use, providing Flona MX trails with greater viability for their sustainable use. The main benefit of mapping the trails with their use and functions is the possibility of management with more inclusive actions to be offered to society, guaranteeing the right to leisure and access to nature and meeting an increasingly urgent demand for reducing socio-environmental impacts on biodiversity, achieving sustainability principles, and reinforcing the importance of the UC as a space for promoting environmental education in non-formal spaces and scientific research.
