Playful geographic encounters with children and adolescents in the quilombo space of Santa Rita do Bracui, Angra dos Reis/RJ

Quilombola education has been gaining ground in the Brazilian educational scene, mainly due to the demands that these people have brought. Knowing that it is extremely important to work with students, aspects of their daily lives, their lives and culture, and references that they already know, there are many ways to think about/practice education based on play, observing their relationships in the territory of a quilombola community, and reflecting on the educational processes of the group based on games and play. This work seeks to learn from the interface with children and adolescents, and their actions, contributions to the movement to build a less uniform education, which can also be considered as quilombola education. To this end, a series of playful meetings was proposed in Quilombo do Bracuí - Angra dos Reis/RJ, rescuing some aspects with the aim of investigating the engagement of this young audience in relation to their history, culture and geography. The meetings were held to combine community knowledge with geography teaching using playful methodologies, such as fieldwork, memory games, drawing, mental maps, storytelling, etc., during the school holidays, with an audience of both quilombolas and non-quilombolas. The set of approaches led the young people to make numerous connections with what was learned in the school environment, although the local references brought particular perceptions.
