SUMMARY:

This master’s project discusses racial, gender, and class issues based on the experience of being a Black adolescent girl, emphasizing the injustice of being deprived of the right to fully experience this phase of life. The study begins with an analysis of the category "Black adolescent girl" to explore how the body-space of these young women is constructed and fragmented in a world that forces them to assume adult responsibilities and concerns prematurely. The central objective is to assess how the promotion of Economic Justice and financial autonomy can positively transform the trajectory of Black adolescent girls. As a Black woman, I find it essential to expose the intersections of what it means to be a Black girl who, often by the age of 14 or 15, already has full awareness of the hardships and inequalities of life. They are forced to abandon the discoveries typical of this stage of life. This reality imposes limits on their possibilities to dream, explore, and develop in an environment of safety and freedom. For geographic analysis, I considered corporeality and body-space as key reflections to understand how these inequalities are amplified, highlighting how these young women face constant tension between the pursuit of rights and the multiple forms of oppression that traverse their lives. The research combines document analysis, interviews, and the reading of fictional works written by Black women. This method captures the nuances of the lived experiences of Black adolescent girls, showcasing how they become sociopolitical agents even in contexts of exclusion, developing strategies to challenge oppressive structures. The results highlight the urgency of recognizing and addressing the specificities of Black adolescent girls' experiences, prioritizing public policies and initiatives that promote spaces of belonging, autonomy, and rights. Ensuring these young women’s right to adolescence is essential to building a fairer and more equitable future. Thus, how can the promotion of Economic Justice and financial autonomy transform the trajectory of Black adolescent girls, guaranteeing them the right to fully experience their adolescence?
