Youth and Adult Education, despite being an extremely important subject for education in Brazil, is still seen as a field of discussion, primarily in pedagogy. In view of this, this research aims to contribute to the discussion of EJA and the concept of geographic space within textbooks in Baixada Fluminense, with an emphasis on the municipality of Queimados/RJ, bringing geography into the debate. To this end, the central problem in this research is to understand how the aforementioned textbook was constructed and how this influences the teaching-learning of students from the perspective of geography teachers, elementary school - final years, understanding geographic space as a key concept for understanding geography, conceiving it as a social production, and consequently, the production of EJA students. Therefore, it will seek to consult and analyze public policies and incentive programs for the construction of textbooks and other supporting teaching materials, based on Freire's perspective (1989) in which the reading of the world precedes the reading of the word, therefore the reading of geographic space as a product of social construction precedes the reading of geography itself. As a general objective, it intends to analyze and understand the relevance of geographic space in textbooks in Youth and Adult Education (EJA) in the city of Queimados/RJ for learning Geography, and as specific objectives: to identify throughout the history of EJA in Brazil which were the main public policies that influenced the creation of such supporting material, its advances and setbacks; recognize how the concept of geographic space can contribute to the understanding of geography through it as a social production; and clarify through the results and discussions whether this is in fact the key concept for understanding geography as an essential discipline for the public served by EJA. The methodological approach adopted focuses on a Case Study through the qualitative analysis of theoretical references of Geography Teaching, Youth and Adult Education and the production of Textbooks. We will conduct interviews with teachers and the coordinator of the area in the city of Queimados/RJ, in addition to consultations and analyses of national and municipal public policies. In this research, we understand and work on geographic space as social production, as indicated by authors such as Henry Lefèbvre (2006) in his work The Production of Space, Milton Santos (2021) in the work Por uma gênero nova and David Harvey (2007) in his article entitled Space as a Keyword. Thus, we seek to reflect on geographic space and its relationship with the teaching of geography for EJA in textbooks, understanding as a result that it is fundamental to teaching geography in this modality. In this sense, as partial results, it was observed that public policies and programs for EJA had advances and setbacks, advances in the popular governments of Lula and Dilma, and setbacks in the governments of Temer and Bolsonaro. Furthermore, when discussing the concept of Geographic Space related to EJA through Geography textbooks, it can be seen that despite the effort made to construct and implement it, in general, it is still not suitable for the context of that modality, being essential that Geography Teaching be thought of as a means and discuss Geographic Space from its view as a social construction, especially with regard to the teaching and learning of EJA students.
