Cities are complex spatial units in the contemporary world, embedded in a society marked by accelerated processes of technological and informational production, accompanied by constant innovations. In this context, audiovisual language emerges as a pedagogical resource capable of enhancing ways of reading, seeing, thinking, feeling, and learning, especially when incorporated into the school environment. In the field of Geography, its use can make content, methodologies, and practices more dynamic and connected to students’ experiences, fostering the construction of knowledge based on the places where they live. This study, developed in the municipality of São Gonçalo (RJ), aimed to analyze the contribution of audiovisual resources to Geography teaching. For this purpose, the researcher produced an original short film, designed to engage with the local reality and serve as didactic material for use in municipal schools. The research adopted a qualitative approach, based on a bibliographic review and on the technical and pedagogical analysis of the audiovisual production itself. From this analysis and the consulted literature, it was identified that the short film has the potential to broaden the understanding of geographical space, stimulate students’ interest, and foster a critical interpretation of the city. It is concluded that, although this finding results from a theoretical study, audiovisual resources stand out as a promising tool for Geography teaching and learning, especially in complex urban contexts such as São Gonçalo
