RESUMO:

Delimited for the purpose of monitoring and ordering activities around protected areas, the buffer zone is an important tool for planning and environmental management of protected areas, especially in urban protected areas, such as the Biological Reserve (Rebio) do Tinguá located in the Metropolitan Region of Rio de Janeiro. Rebio Tinguá was created more than 29 years ago and had its buffer zone established in its management plan, document in which the criteria for the tracing of its boundary are not described, and today the management of this conservation unit seeks to establish new limits for the buffer zone, either by legal pressure or by administrative operation, since the unit is located in a peri-urban context, where in its southern slope one can observe the advance of the urban network and in its northern slope that forest remnants are opposed to expanding agropastoral areas. It is a context that imposes on the management body of the unit a management complexity to equate environmental preservation with the multiplicity of uses mapped in the buffer zone and it is observed that the current limit of the damping zone covers areas that are claimed by municipal management as urban areas - in which there is already occupation, others are even protected because a new protected area was established, among other situations. The current scenario is different from the scenario in which the buffer zone was established and, without undermining the achievement of the objectives of the creation of the Rebio Tinguá, it is understood that a new limit for the buffer zone could facilitate management and dialogue with the social actors involved. Therefore, this research aims to diagnose the current scenario of the buffer zone using landscape indicators and through these indicators propose a new limit for the damping zone, also considering the conflicting uses mapped in the study area. In order to carry out this research, we used the classification of land use and coverage, in the scale of 1: 25.000, obtained from the laboratory Espaço (UFRJ), used WorldView 2 image and was generated from the object oriented classification technique (GEOBIA) , in addition to the geoenvironmental database of INEA and ICMBio for the study area. And for forest fragmentation analysis, five landscape metrics were calculated: size, shape, edge effect, isolation and connectivity. Thus, one can analyze the current scenario and propose a new limit prioritizing the connection between forest remnants so that the environmental services promoted by Rebio Tinguá are not compromised.
