GEOGRAPHY TEACHING FOR THE DEAF: (RE)THINKING OF SOME PRACTICES FOR CARTOGRAPHIC LITERACY

The research discusses the issue of teaching Geography for deaf students, especially about the content of Cartography. In this sense, our practice will be in the elaboration of specific teaching materials and strategies that see on this theme according to the reality of deaf students, proposing activities that will be carried out through workshops aimed preferably at the second segment of elementary school of Nova Iguaçu public network in Baixada Fluminense. The methodology is qualitative based on the theoretical reference of the area, workshop for deaf students, interview with geography teachers of deaf students and deaf students. From the reports of these workshops we intend to discuss issues related to deafness, the teaching of deaf people and school cartography. Together with the students, we will take the map of the common place, of only one image or illustration, and dialogue about the elements that compose it and its process of making. The main purpose of the research is the elaboration of the mapping of the school space by deaf students themselves, where they will determine elements and symbologies to be used.
