RESUMO:

The Parque Mambucaba neighborhood is located the municipality of Angra dos Reis in a fluvial-marine floodplain of the Mambucaba river basin, whose source is located on the border between the states of Rio de Janeiro and São Paulo, forming the most extensive hydrographic network of Ilha Grande Bay. It has important characteristics that indicate the need for conservation of biodiversity, natural and human history, as well as having the highest concentration of Atlantic forest in the State of Rio de Janeiro, was the stage of the beginning of the colonization of Brazil. Added to the natural characteristics are the anthropic interventions in this ecosystem, related to irregular occupation and the realization of modifications that profoundly alter the balance of the processes of transport of fluvial sediments and surface runoff in the coastal zone. Interference in this geosystem causes severe changes in physical, chemical, geological, biological, and social attributes. These anthropogenic changes help to transform the landscape and increase the environmental risks associated with flooding. Given the environmental fragility and social vulnerability of the residents of Mambucaba Park, the main question of this research is to analyse, through participatory mapping, which areas are susceptible to the environmental risks of floods and how the population perceives these risks, since there is a relationship between the areas of greatest risk and the socioeconomic context, proving the systemic dependence between the physical aspects, the historical occupation process, public policies and the areas with the highest incidence of environmental risks, which are amplified due to the perception of the population. The research was developed using the participatory methodology in the identification of flood risk areas with the secondary school students of the Almirante Álvaro Alberto State College. This methodology was developed in three stages: interviews on risk perceptions, elaboration of a sketch for the recognition of the neighborhood and the production of a participatory map of flood risks. The results show that the areas susceptible to flooding have natural and / or constructed conditions that indicate their predisposition to the occurrence of future accidents due to intense rainfall episodes. They are part of a process of social construction, since these were produced from the action of society and it is on it that it manifests itself. These are felt by individuals and, when they are manifested, can cause harm to people, property, structures and the organization of the territory. The perception, knowledge and consideration of risk may vary according to the culture, level of economic development and even the social group involved.
