RESUMO:

It is known that geographic education is focused on various challenges and possibilities in Current context. In addition to the internal problems of geography as a discipline, both in theoretical and methodological aspects, it also faces obstacles in relation to failures in the Brazilian educational system, precluding a manifestation of a process of Teaching-learning in really meaningful geography. The main objective of this research is to analyze how geographic studies are entering the classroom by means of the perception of high school students in the state network in São João de Meriti-RJ. It uses a bibliographic, qualitative and exploratory methodology; Having as purpose to understand what are the problems that are inserted in the geographic universe in public schools. For this, a theoretical exploration is carried out referring to the history of geography as a science and school discipline, in addition to the main questions regarding the teaching of geography nowadays. Subsequently, discursive questionnaires applied to the students of the selected colleges are analyzed, as well as interviews with teachers of geography of the network, seeking to understand what their demands are in relation to the teaching of Geography in public schools.
