The research has as general objective to emphasize how the concept of place helps in the construction of Elementary School student’s identity. As we understand the concept of place is importante for the study of the immediate student’s reality and of the school, the geography subject, specially, has an importante role in the study of this concept. This study aims to analyze Elementary School student’s perception about their identity about the municipality of Belford Roxo. About the method, it started with the case study, that investigates in a special way a determined situation. This way, this research was carried out with a group of 6th grade of Elementary School, from Centro Educacional Elion, a school located in the city of Belford Roxo, RJ. The theoretical and methodological basis of this investigation followed the principles of qualitative research, with the literature review guided by Tuan (1980, 1983), Cavalcanti (2008), Padua (2013), Carlos (2007), Cavalcanti (2010) BRAZIL (1997), Woodward (2000) and Hall (2000) André (2009) Ludke (2013), Meirinhos, Osório (2010), Deus; Wedge; Maciel (2010), Chizzotti (2013), Magalhães et.al (2013). In order to understand the sense of belonging the students have with the city of Belford Roxo, pedagogical workshops were carried out with the agenda focused on the studied city. The data collected in the workshops and the relation of these with the theoretical reference were crucial to understand the identity that the students have with the municipality of Belford Roxo. According to the results obtained, it was observed the difficulty of the students in recognizing the municipality as a place of belonging, the most of them portrayed the city as an extremely violent place with few areas of interest. After the workshops, there were deep changes on their thought and the students began to look more closely at the city, and also realizing its potential and its leisure areas.
