THE EDUCATION OF ETHNIC-RACIAL RELATIONS IN THE TEACHING OF GEOGRAPHY: Methodological and Pedagogical Challenges
Geography Teaching; Ethnic-racial relations; Anti-racist education; Law 10639/03
After 18 years of the implementation of law 10639/03, many academic studies in the area of geography teaching show that working on the education of ethnic-racial relations in schools also depends on the individual concern of teachers, which makes it difficult to fight racism, prejudice and discrimination in the school environment. Seeking to understand the reasons and difficulties that revolve around the applicability of this law, this research aims to investigate how teachers/geography teachers of the Colégio Estadual Deputado Pedro Fernandes, located in the neighborhood of Jardim América in the municipality of Rio de Janeiro/RJ work on the themes related to Ethnic-Racial Relations in the programmatic content of their discipline. We will use a methodology based on the case study in which we will try to conduct a qualitative research through the application of semi-structured interviews, composed of a questionnaire that will seek to know the profile of the interviewed teacher, his practices and opinions about Law 10639/03.
