The Nova Iguaçu Project Bairro-escola, which ran from 2006 to 2010, under the administration of Mayor Lindberg Farias - PT, was a public educational policy that had as its main objective to transform the various spaces in the neighborhoods into large classrooms, seeking to enhance not only the educational aspects but also to recognize the importance of social, cultural, moral and ethical values in the formation of human beings. It was, also, a project of urban intervention that had as its starting and finishing line the search for integral education. Its main assumption was the recognition that people are educated in the city, in their social networks, in the places and territories where they live. The central axis of this new program of government action was to build a policy that deeply valued public education, encouraging the creation of a school space integrated to the community. This paper focuses on the implementation and the consequences of the discontinuity of this public education policy, having as field of research the Professora Anna Maria Ramalho Municipal School, located in the center of the Miguel Couto neighborhood in Nova Iguaçu. To follow this path, the methodology used was literature review, document analysis, field research and semi-structured interviews. In summary, the Neighborhood-School Project was considered a successful policy by its creators, but the superficiality of the actions for its implementation and the discontinuity of this policy revealed its limitations and modest results
