The present work aims to understand - from the perspective of economic geography - the emergence of the industrialization process, which took place in the municipality, its attenuation in the degree of importance in the municipal economy and the new productive dynamics, carried out by the enterprises of the commercial sectors and service. In this way, statistics that are made available by the most renowned research institutions in the state of Rio de Janeiro and in Brazil are used as a reference to ratify the changes in the profile of the municipality. The investigations that thematize the study about the city of Duque de Caxias corroborate to highlight the political, economic and social importance of this territory. Duque de Caxias is among the five largest economies in the state of Rio de Janeiro and among the twenty richest municipalities in Brazil. Assimilating the individualities of this city is fundamental for the metropolitan conjuncture of Rio de Janeiro. Through all the explained framework, we will observe the process of economic, political and social revitalization that Duque de Caxias went through, with unfoldings beyond its municipal limits, demonstrating the privileged spaces for the congregation and interlocution of businesses.
