MUNICIPAL PROTECTED AREAS IN NOVA IGUAÇU: AN ANALYSIS ON SOCIO-ENVIRONMENTAL FUNCTIONS
Protected Areas; Nova Iguaçu; Ecossitem services
The creation of CProtected Areas is a measure that aims to preserve and maintain biodiversity and its resources. However, when implemented, they end up developing functions in addition to preservation, functions that are likely to be called ecosystem services as human demand increases. The municipality of Nova Iguaçu is a place where more than half of its territory is made up of Conservation Units, so it can be considered a very interesting feature for carrying out research in this regard. Thus, this work seeks to investigate the socioenvironmental functions that the Municipal Conservation Units of Nova Iguaçu perform, even though their management faces several challenges. The survey also takes into account the financial incentive that the municipality receives for the maintenance of protected areas, as well as the environmental perception of residents who live close to the units.
