After almost 20 years of the implementation of law 10639/03, many academic works in the area of teaching geography show that working on the education of ethnic-racial relations in schools still depends on the individual concern of teachers, which ends up making the fight against racism difficult, prejudice and discrimination in such a diverse environment. Our research has as general objective to investigate and analyze how teachers of Geography in the public network of the state of Rio de Janeiro work on Ethnic-Racial Relations in High School. As for the methodology, the research is based on the case study, where we will try to carry out qualitative research through the application of interviews that will seek to know the profile of the interviewed professor, his practices, and opinions about Law 10639/03. For greater grounding and deepening of concepts and contents related to ethnic-racial relations and the teaching of geography. Initially, we sought to carry out research on the state of the art of works related to ethnic-racial relations in the teaching of geography and the search for bibliographic sources that would allow us to constitute a theoretical reference that contemplates analyzes referring to the area of teaching of geography and the theme researched, as well as interviews with schoolteachers. The role of Geography as a school subject is fundamental to contribute to the formation and proposal of an anti-racist citizen education. In this way, we highlight the role of the geography teacher as one of the subjects responsible for helping the student to understand his reality and propose changes in the social context. We realize that despite Law 10639/03 establishing guidelines and bases for national education and having contributed significantly to the anti-racist struggle in schools, its applicability in the teaching of geography still depends a lot on the world view of teachers and what they consider or not important as content to be worked on in their pedagogical practices.
