(RE)FINDING THE PATHS TO COMMUNITY-BASED ENVIRONMENTAL EDUCATIONCommunity-Based Environmental Education; Community; Urban Agriculture; Territory.
This study investigates how Community-Based Environmental Education (EABC) manifests as resistance and territorial strengthening in marginalized communities. The general objective is to understand socio-environmental practices based on EABC that emerge from territories through community experiences of certain groups within modern society. To achieve this, the specific objectives are: to analyze the development of EABC through the academic productions and experiences of the Grupo de Estudos em Educação Ambiental desde el Sur (GEASur); to understand how EABC practices emerge in contexts of territorial conflicts and tensions, focusing on the experiences with the Associação dos Agricultores da Feira Agroecológica de Campo Grande, Processadores de Alimentos, Artesãos e Amigos (AAFA); and to develop a field notebook to document these experiences and practices. The study adopts Textual Discourse Analysis (ATD) to examine seven dissertations and theses from GEASur, produced between 2014 and 2024, investigating how EABC is academically addressed and its relationships with territorial conflicts and community resistance. Additionally, participant research is used as a methodological strategy for immersion in AAFA’s activities, allowing knowledge construction through direct experience in the territory. The theoretical foundation is based on the concepts of community, discussed by Bauman and Nego Bispo; territory, as reflected upon by Haesbaert; and Environmental Education, with contributions from Mauro Guimarães. The expected results of this research contribute to deepening the concept of EABC, broadening the understanding of its relationship with territorial conflicts and community resistance practices. Furthermore, the field notebook produced will serve as a tool for recording and reflecting on AAFA’s experiences, potentially supporting future educational practices and strengthening Environmental Education initiatives rooted in local territories.
