SUMMARY:

The geoliterary research developed here stems from the dialogue between humanist geography and the novel “The Hour of The Star”, by writer Clarice Lispector. A novel that had its first publication in 1977 and features as protagonist, the character Macabéa, a 19-year-old girl from the northeast of Brazil, who leaves the Alagoas backwoods in search of a new life in the city of Rio de Janeiro. However, the story of this character is marked by a strong topophobic feeling of non-existence, of not belonging anywhere, of total anonymous misery. With an ironic and introspective language, Clarice denounces Macabéa's social invisibility, which permeates issues of housing, work and human relations permeated with conflicts. Thus, the main objective of this research is to analyze the construction of the Place from the (un)lived experiences of the character, taking into account Emotional Geographies, as well as topophobia, demarcating Macabéa's trajectory in the context in which she is situated both spatially and temporally in the novel. From this perspective, Geography incarnated in Macabéa is a way of saying (metaphorically) that human existence is the first condition for the geographic making, and that emotions (of the most diverse) are present in the constitution of places, in the subjectivity of bodies. There is no place without people, and people are moved by emotions. More than 40 years after its publication, it is still possible to find other “Macabéas” walking around the streets of Brazilian cities. Invisible, suffering northeastern women who are looking for (without knowing if they will find) the time when their “stars can shine”.
