SUMMARY:

The project "Impacts of Homicides in the Municipality of Rio de Janeiro: An Analysis
Space from the Perspective of the Economy of Crime" has as its main objective to identify the
socioeconomic factors that influence the homicide rate in the city of Rio de
Janeiro, using exploratory spatial data analysis and econometric methods. THE
research is of great relevance to the city, as it addresses one of the biggest challenges
local areas: violence and high homicide rates. These crimes directly affect
public safety, the population’s quality of life and economic development
and social aspects of the municipality. The study will also examine the spatial correlation between
municipalities, investigating how violence in one area can impact neighboring regions,
through the "spillover" phenomenon. To achieve these objectives,
An Exploratory Spatial Data Analysis (AEDE) will be carried out to map the
distribution of homicides and identify concentration patterns. Furthermore, the Method
of Ordinary Least Squares (OLS) will be used to estimate the relationship between
socioeconomic variables and the homicide rate, offering subsidies for the
development of more effective public policies.
