DETERMINANTS OF FORMAL EMPLOYMENT IN THE STATE OF RIO DE JANEIRO – A REGIONAL ANALYSIS
Formal employment; Rio de Janeiro; Regional analysis.
The debate about formal employment, informal employment and unemployment is a topic of study already disseminated by several authors. In the State of Rio de Janeiro, the absence of specific policies for job creation, in addition to the lack of improvements in working conditions, contributes to the perpetuation of informal employment, especially among young people and low-income people (Neri 2015). By analyzing the variables that are related to formal employment in the state of Rio de Janeiro, it is possible to observe what can be decisive for an individual to be introduced into the formalized job market. Not only that, it is pertinent to point out economic and social problems according to how the chosen variables explain and justify the individual's employment situation. In this way, by considering what is considered relevant to employment and the labor market, as well as the disparities between the mesoregions of the state, it is possible to draw conclusions, through the results obtained with the model, about what is decisive or not for each of these regions. Thus, the general objective of the work is to understand the determinants of formal employment in the State of Rio de Janeiro based on an analysis of the mesoregions.
