A study of the formal labor market at Baixada Fluminense

Throughout its historical formation, the State of Rio de Janeiro did not generate changes capable of developing its regional economy and correcting spaces, making them more homogeneous. Its development became problematic and concentrated in the state capital, generating regional inequality, with a concentration of companies and formal jobs in the capital. It is observed that the state presents problems that do not match its relevance for the country, transport deficiency, economic concentration in the capital, increasing criminality, low quality public services, in addition to high unemployment rates.

In this way, the peripheral regions of the city suffer from a lack of prioritization of policies capable of promoting regional development, as in the case of Baixada Fluminense. The region depended on the capital, with municipalities that are considered “dormitory cities”, because they are unable to fully absorb their working mass, thus, these municipalities are just housing for workers.

Therefore, with the use of the Input-Product matrix of the state of Rio de Janeiro for the year 2021, the unfolding of the inter-regional matrix of the Baixada Fluminense will be presented, from this disaggregated matrix it will be possible to highlight the relevance of the Baixada Fluminense, in addition to verifying the possibilities and directions for investments in order to present possible directions for combating regional inequality in the State of Rio de Janeiro.
