Perceptions of (in)security among the Brazilian population.
Fear; (In)Security; Victimization; Public policy; Brazil.
Violence has been intensified in recent years in Brazil, directly affecting citizens’ lives
through the imposition of strong economic and social restrictions. It should be noted that the
widespread feeling of fear and insecurity has a considerable impact on social well-being. The
data show an upward trajectory of intentional deaths in the country, as well as deaths
resulting from police intervention. This intensified violence criminalizes certain groups,
especially racial groups, signaling possible flaws in public policies that seek to prevent crime.
In this sense, this project seeks to understand the sensations of (in)security of the Brazilian
population, based on data from the “PNAD Contínua: Vitimização e Sensação de Segurança
de 2021” survey. For this purpose, a correlation matrix and the model Probit will be used to
identify types of fear and their perceptions.
