SUMMARY:

Understanding the economic dynamics for Latin America has been a recurring subject among economists since the beginning of time, and from 1948 onwards, with the creation of the Economic Commission for Latin America and the Caribbean - ECLAC and structuralist thinking, more realistic and feasible on the Latin American economies, either from the internal point of view of the countries or from the external point of view in relation to international exchanges. Many analyzes were carried out tracing specific dynamics for each country, looking for where the economic backwardness comes from and the difficulties of overcoming them, but all analyzes having in common the economic development of countries with the objective of industrializing them. The present work, through structuralist theory and applied analysis, tries to show the possible obstacles to Brazilian economic development. Chapter I makes a brief historical review of the development process and structuralist theory in relation to Latin America with some references to Brazil. It is not a review as a review of the history of Latin American economic thought and its development. Chapter II is part of this project which is very incipient, but with the aim of drawing up a theoretical analysis based on the evolution of the exchange rate and Brazilian imports for the period 1997 - 2021 with the perspective of tracing the scenario of the exchange rate dynamics and the imports evidencing the need for analysis mentioned above. Chapter III will bring the econometric results and the analysis of these results and the work will be closed through the conclusion with a balance on the possible obstacles to Brazilian economic development.
