SUMMARY:

This research describes in-person and online interventions, in 2021 and 2022, with third-year
high school students from a state school located in Baixada Fluminense, RJ, and aims to
explore the generating theme Plastics and Microplastics and contextualize the content of
Polymers in Chemistry. organic. As support and support for the importance of the proposal of
this research, the guidelines of the National Common Curricular Base, the Minimum
Curriculum of the State of Rio de Janeiro, textbooks of the PNLD 2021 and the Sustainable
Development Goals of the Agenda 2030, from UNESCO were used. Adequate planning for
the pandemic moment was prepared using the Three Pedagogical Moments as a reference, in
which sequential interventions were carried out at three different times: initial virtual poll,
lecture and final virtual poll plus an expository chat. The initial poll was part of the first
moment, in the years 2021 and 2022, and contained 8 and 12 questions, respectively,
objective and discursive, on the topic Plastics and Microplastics, in order to understand the
knowledge of the subject by the target audience. This poll was applied in virtual format,
through Google's tool, Google Forms. 19 students participated in this moment in 2021 and 46
students in 2022. It was found from the results obtained that more than 50% of the
participants were unaware of the raw material of plastic, the term microplastic and the
decomposition time of plastic materials. Thus, it was possible to elaborate the second
moment, emphasizing unknown or little-known subjects. Therefore, an expository class was
systematically elaborated using multimedia resources during the presentation of relevant
topics for the understanding of the theme. During the second moment, 22 and 49 students
participated in 2021 and 2022, respectively. A second survey was prepared for the third
moment, also virtual and using Google Forms. This poll included 15 objective and discursive
questions, both in 2021 and 2022. Along with the poll link, a podcast on the subject was sent
to participating students to add to the content. 14 students responded to the survey in 2021
and 33 students in 2022. In addition to carrying out this stage, a conversation circle was
designed for this moment as a complementary proposal, allowing students to participate
using, also, orality. This moment was composed of 19 and 42 students, respectively, in 2021
and 2022. It was possible, through the survey applied in the third moment, to perceive
positive results and evolution in the understanding of the theme. Meanwhile, the idealized
conversation circle became an expository chat since student participation was shy. The results
showed that the theme, so present in our daily lives, was practically unknown by the students,
and they serve to reinforce how necessary it is to discuss and develop the theme in Basic
Education. In addition to promoting Chemistry Teaching by bringing students closer to
science and technology, it was also possible to encourage critical thinking and reflection on
sustainable consumption and proper disposal of plastic waste.
