SUMMARY:

In this work, in order to stimulate cognitive and socio-emotional skills, we will explore the reframing of what is seen as waste through the teaching of chemistry in a 1st year high school class from the state public school system in the state of Rio de Janeiro.

The aim is to encourage students to reflect on domestic composting, which will be carried out in unused spaces on the school grounds, intentionally chosen with the aim of also using them for environmental education.

The students will also visit an urban composting site outside the municipality, where various environmental education activities are carried out, including composting on a municipal scale. Later, in a smaller, more controlled environment, they will apply the technique in their school.

The project will be applied after COVID-19 and the expectation, given the survey of references, is for positive results in terms of cognitive and non-cognitive skills.
