SUMMARY:

It is the responsibility of each educator to socialize historically produced knowledge, but this socialization does not happen neutrally or without intentionality. Based on pedagogical intentionality, plans will be constructed, influenced by the model of society that each educator understands as ideal. Living in a society of colonial and slave-owning origins, black people are oppressed to this day while white people have privileges that guarantee them access to rights that should belong to everyone. The school for a long time socialized Eurocentric knowledge to the detriment of others, contributing to the erasure of African and Afro-Brazilian history. Given this, affirmative action policies became necessary and one of them was Law 10,639/03. However, even after twenty years, the appreciation of African and Afro-Brazilian Culture is still a distant reality in many schools. The objectives of this research are to understand the social representations of high school students about being black and black culture, as well as identifying pedagogical possibilities that value black culture, contributing to anti-racist values within the scope of high school Physical Education classes. The research will be carried out at two distinct moments, linked by theme, but not interdependent or sequential in terms of procedures. Therefore, this research is characterized as quantitative in the first stage, through the descriptive mathematical treatment of hierarchical sets of evoked words; and qualitative in the second stage, through action research using observational procedures, field records, focus groups and content analysis. It is expected that the results of the study of social representations indicate that students still have a stereotypical view of “being black” and “black culture”, the result of a Eurocentric education and a structurally racist society. As a result of action research, it is expected that students will be able to add some knowledge, even if small, in relation to black culture and be able to carry out a slightly more critical analysis of the racism that exists in our society.
