ETHNIC-RACIAL RELATIONS AND THE TEACHING OF AFRO-BRAZILIAN DANCES IN SCHOOL PHYSICAL EDUCATION

In recent decades, Dance has been included as an object of teaching in the Physical Education curricular component, contributing in an elementary way to the comprehensive training of students, enabling them to act consciously and effectively in society. Furthermore, since 2003, Law No. 10,639/03 established the mandatory teaching of Afro-Brazilian and African History and Culture in public and private elementary and secondary schools.

In this context, the present research aims to analyze the experiences of teachers in the field of Education for Ethnic-Racial Relations (ERER) and Afro-Brazilian Dances in Elementary School Physical Education classes in the Early Years. The choice for the Initial Years is due to the National Common Curricular Base not including Afro-Brazilian Dances as an object of study in Elementary Education in the Final Years.

Among the specific objectives, we seek to identify which documents and guidelines teachers access to work on ERER in classes, map educational practices and identify the challenges faced in this process. To this end, qualitative research will be carried out with teachers in this segment who teach in public schools in the municipality of Mangaratiba, located in the state of Rio de Janeiro. The sample size will consist of 30 in-service teachers.

Furthermore, to collect data, we will use a structured questionnaire with 20 closed and open questions. The questions will address professional aspects, such as knowledge, experience and perceptions regarding the research object. Finally, Data Analysis will be based on the Content Analysis technique (Bardin, 2011).

The research, in addition, foresees the development of a theoretical-practical continuing education course to train teachers, addressing historical, cultural and practical aspects of ERER and Afro-Brazilian Dances. The course will be designed based on the research results, in order to meet the needs and possible limitations identified among teachers.
