ETHNIC-RACIAL RELATIONS FROM THE PERSPECTIVE OF PHYSICAL EDUCATION: STREET BASKETBALL AS A PEDAGOGICAL INTERVENTION IN THE FINAL YEARS OF PRIMARY EDUCATION

SUMMARY:

This study aims to present possibilities for promoting ethnic-racial relations within the Physical Education subject during the final years of primary education, through pedagogical interventions using street basketball. The goal is to fulfill Laws 10.639/2003 and 11.645/2008, which mandate the teaching of Afro-Brazilian and Indigenous history and culture. Although the country is marked by its ethnic diversity, racial discrimination remains deeply rooted, especially in school environments. Physical Education is presented both as a space where inequalities can be reinforced and as a powerful environment for the construction of anti-racist education.

To this end, the work draws on the contributions of theorists and researchers who address issues related to the theme, such as: Eliane dos Santos Cavalleiro (2000, 2001), Kabengele Munanga (2005, 2016, 2020), Oliveira and Nunes (2020) on equity and cultural diversity, Silva (2015) on continuing education, Ferreira and Duarte (2018), and on street basketball as a manifestation of ethnic body culture, Salvador Duarte (2010). The research is qualitative and ethnographic in nature, seeking to understand the practices, values, and meanings attributed to street basketball by the social movement "Reino Rio 3x3." The immersion will provide the foundation for developing a didactic sequence that integrates the cultural, technical, and social aspects of street basketball. This sequence will be implemented at the Olympic Experimental Gymnasium (GEO) Dr. Sócrates, located in the Pedra de Guaratiba neighborhood, with a final-year primary education class. The study presents Street Basketball (3x3), a sport that became part of the Olympic Games in 2024, with origins linked to Black culture, the Hip Hop movement, and graffiti. The proposal seeks to integrate this practice into the school curriculum, valuing Black identities and promoting a more equitable and inclusive learning environment. The final result will be the creation of an e-book containing a didactic sequence for 3x3 Basketball, facilitating the implementation of practices that promote ethnic-racial relations in primary education and guiding teachers and administrators in the application of anti-racist education.
