Continuing Education and Teacher Identity in Physical Education
Physical Education – Teacher Identity – Continuing Education
The issues surrounding the definition of Physical Education directly affect the teacher's identity. Historically, it is observed that the transformations in the field, marked especially by the epistemic mosaic that constitutes its conceptual field, generate weaknesses in the teacher's identity. This compromises pedagogical practice and, simultaneously, destabilizes teaching praxis in the face of the logic of contemporary society, which is vulnerable, unstable, and fragmented. This situation ends up affecting the teacher's identity, emptying out criticism and therefore increasing the risk of perpetuating this social model. The Professional Master's Program in Physical Education in the National Network (ProEF), by having as a participation criterion the school performance of its master's students, proposes to bridge the gap between the latent issues on the field and the academic discussions surrounding the area, potentially contributing to the strengthening of a critical teacher identity. Thus, the objective of this research is to analyze, from the perspective of graduates, the contribution of ProEF in the construction of critical identities of Physical Education teachers. This is an exploratory-descriptive study that will be conducted with graduates of the aforementioned program, carried out at the Federal Rural University of Rio de Janeiro (UFRRJ), in Seropédica (RJ). The choice of this location is justified by the researcher's institutional link with the university, which facilitates access to the research subjects and allows for more substantial monitoring of these professionals' trajectories after course completion. The data collection instruments will be questionnaires and semi-structured interviews. The expected results focus on the articulation between theory and practice, reflection and action, in order to understand whether, during the course and especially at the end, the teacher is able to assume themselves as a subject in permanent formation, qualifying academic debates, understanding the obstacles in the field and positioning themselves critically in the face of them, in the pursuit of a coherent teaching self in their pedagogical practice.
