SUMMARY:

Introduction: Capoeira is a Brazilian cultural expression considered part of the Brazilian cultural heritage, originating from the period of slavery in Brazil. It emerged from the mixture of African culture with the culture already existing in the country and encompasses several dimensions, being considered a sport, martial art, dance, and game. In the Physical Education curriculum component, according to the Base Nacional Comum Curricular, capoeira is included as an object of knowledge within the field of martial arts. However, its inclusion in Physical Education classes faces challenges such as the lack of continuing teacher education, students’ lack of interest in classes, and the use of traditional theoretical-methodological approaches. Active teaching methodologies are characterized as pedagogical practices that place students as protagonists of their own learning process and teachers as mediators in the construction of knowledge. Therefore, this study aims to develop a pedagogical proposal for teaching capoeira through active methodologies as a way to promote student engagement in classes. Objective: To analyze how the use of active methodologies in capoeira teaching can enhance students’ engagement in Physical Education classes in the final years of elementary school. Methodology: This is a qualitative exploratory-descriptive study that will adopt action research as its central methodological. The participants will be 9th-grade elementary school students. For data collection, observation techniques, questionnaires, and field diaries will be used. Data treatment and interpretation will be carried out through content analysis.Expected Results: It is expected that the research will contribute to the inclusion of capoeira in Physical Education classes, as well as increase students’ participation in these classes. At the end of this study, the intention is to highlight the use of active methodologies for teaching capoeira as an effective pedagogical proposal to promote greater student interest in school Physical Education classes and to generate an educational product that provides support for teachers in planning their lessons.
