SUMMARY:

Many questions that previously worried me and permeated my imagination, as a teacher, became even more latent, such as why we have Physical Education at school. What guarantees the provision of the discipline? How important is school Physical Education for the school community and society? What is expected of this discipline at school these days? Such questions led me to reflect on the meaning of Physical Education at school and, to this end, I decided, in this master's thesis, to understand what legitimizes Physical Education at school and what guarantees that the discipline will be present in the school of the future. With the objective of identifying the conceptions of pedagogical coordinators of schools in a Regional Education Coordination in the city of Rio de Janeiro, regarding school Physical Education. The research is justified by proposing to investigate the legitimacy of physical education from the perspectives of pedagogical coordinators and enabling a contribution to the academic panorama. The relevance of this research focuses primarily on documenting the coordinators' perceptions about physical education, in this sense, the research can contribute to the discussion that supports the formulation of educational policies. The results of this research have direct implications for the professional field of physical education. By identifying coordinators' perceptions, the research offers a critical view of the legitimacy of the discipline, highlighting areas that require attention and improvements. An integrative review will be presented as it makes it possible to combine studies with different methodologies of academic production on the legitimacy of Physical Education as a school area. Five academic journals that are related to the debate on school physical education were chosen. According to Arnaud (1989), for a subject to be part of school programs it requires at least three conditions. The first is that the legislator assigns purposes to it. The legislator must attribute purposes to the discipline, that is, he must prove the usefulness of physical education and define its purposes in accordance with a system of values strictly dependent on the political, social, economic or cultural conditions specific to a given time. The research approach is characterized as quantitative, as statistical and quantified data will be used, ensuring that everything is measurable. In relation to the objectives, it will be defined as being exploratory and descriptive. The data collection instrument will be the questionnaire. The questionnaire will be with closed questions. The question guide will be created collectively with the research group and subsequently evaluated by two experts on the topic. Participants will be chosen based on the following inclusion criteria: Being a pedagogical coordinator in effective capacity in the Municipal Department of Education of the City of Rio de Janeiro in the 10th Regional Education Coordination. Questionnaire questions will be tabulated and then analyzed using a simple descriptive statistical analysis. The results will be presented in tables to facilitate presentation.
