SUMMARY:

Among the problems that permeate society, the inclusion of people with disabilities is an essential theme for the construction of an egalitarian social environment. Therefore, schools can play a fundamental role in building values that favor inclusion, diversity, and respect for differences. Physical Education, as a curricular component of basic education, must contribute to discussions of educational merit, thus some approaches and even content can facilitate these discussions. Based on this, the research aims to analyze the attitude of teachers and students regarding the inclusion of children with disabilities in school before and after participating in an event with adapted sports. The research was carried out at Escola Básica Municipal Tapera, in Florianópolis/SC, with 19 students (5th grade) and 7 teachers who teach classes in this grade. This is a qualitative and descriptive study, with data collection carried out through focus groups and field diaries. These data were processed using the content analysis technique and the analysis categories were defined a priori, based on the specific objectives. To this, meetings were held before and after the event. At the end of the research, it was concluded that the contact that participants have had for years with children with disabilities at school allows them to have knowledge and positive attitudes towards them. The most significant change found was in the experience with adapted sports, where participants understood the importance of the content for learning new knowledge, as well as raising awareness among the school community of people without disabilities. Finally, it is concluded that working with adapted sports at school is an opportunity to involve students with and without disabilities, opening a possible path towards a more inclusive physical education.
