SUMMARY:

Studies, old and recent, show that addressing contemporary issues in School Physical Education
classes still remains a great difficulty for many teachers. Especially for those who work with the
sportsman, biologicist and/or recreationist perspectives. The present research problematizes an
experience that has been carried out in schools in the city of Rio de Janeiro called Transversal
Games. She seeks to critically analyze the changes in the practical and theoretical field of this
experience, from an approximation with the assumptions of Freirean Pedagogy. This experience
can be considered one of the ways of approaching or problematizing contemporary issues. As a
methodological path, two important moments of the research could be described, presenting their
connections: the first took place through an analysis of the basic assumptions of Freirean
Pedagogy. This moment also occurred when we were taking the courses of the course.
