Nanoemulsion with Licorice Extract and Gold Nanoparticles for Dermocosmetic Applications
Nanoemulsion
Licorice extract
Gold nanoparticles
Nanoemulsions have been widely investigated as delivery systems for cosmetic and therapeutic applications due to their high kinetic stability, transparency, and ability to solubilize lipophilic bioactive compounds. Licorice extract (Glycyrrhiza glabra), rich in flavonoids and saponins, exhibits antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, and skin-lightening properties, which justify its incorporation into dermocosmetic formulations. In parallel, gold nanoparticles (AuNPs) stand out for their surface plasmon resonance, biocompatibility, and antioxidant, photoprotective, and wound-healing activities, establishing themselves as promising active agents in multifunctional systems. This work aims to develop and characterize oil-in-water nanoemulsions containing licorice extract and gold nanoparticles, assessing their physicochemical stability and biological performance. Standardized licorice extracts will be prepared, AuNPs will be synthesized through chemical and green routes, and nanoemulsions will be formulated using different phase ratios and surfactants. Characterization will include average droplet size, polydispersity index, zeta potential, pH, viscosity, morphology, and stress stability. The formulations are expected to show enhanced stability, antioxidant effect, and potentiated skin-lightening activity, as well as anti-inflammatory and antimicrobial action in in vitro assays. The combination of nanoemulsions, licorice extract, and AuNPs is expected to configure a hybrid and innovative system with relevant applications in the prevention and treatment of skin disorders, aligned with the trends of sustainable and high value-added cosmetics.
