ornamental stones waste
Brazil is a major producer of ornamental stones, and the construction industry is the sector that most absorbs these materials, which are considered ideal for cladding. However, part of the processing is carried out by marble workshops, and around 20% to 25% of the material be comes waste. Among this waste are large quantities of fragments, whose landfill disposal generates costs and an environmentalliability for producers. Studies haves hown the feasibility of using these fragments to produce synthetic stones, which are alsoused for claddingandrepresent a promisingdevelopment for the ornamental stone sector. Thus, the objective of this study is to develop samples of synthetic stones using marble waste loads with maximum bulk density. To achieve this, the marble fragments will first be ground in a hammer mill and separated in to granulometric ranges, which will be used as elements for applyingthe simplex method to optimize the load density. Then, the artificial stones will be obtained by hot pressing the mixture containing the load and vegetable polyurethane resin, using a metal mold and a hydraulic press. Finally, the samples and commercial cladding materials will have their porosity, water absorption, and bulk density measured according to the NBR 15845-2 standard from 2015. The elastic and damping moduli will be characterized using the Impulse Excitation Technique. It is expected that the synthetic stones produced will have characteristics similar to commercial cladding materials.
