SUMMARY:

This work deals with the creation and trajectory of the Workers' Party in the municipality of Goiás
GO, the first capital of the state, analyzing its strategies, difficulties, bases, alliances and, above all, which elements, actors and conditions allowed it to become a political force electoral system capable of remaining in power for three consecutive elections (from 2012 to 2020). The objective is to observe how a political force manages to insert itself into the municipal political field over time, also analyzing the culture and economy of the place. A literary review was carried out focusing on symbolic power for Bourdieu (1989), municipal politics for Palmeira and Heredia (2012), coronelismo in Brazil and Goiás and how the struggle for land in the state and municipality studied connects to historical politics of the Workers' Party in the municipality of Goiás. Fieldwork was also carried out in the 2018 and 2020 electoral campaigns, in addition to interviews aimed at politicians affiliated with the party and some voters. The role of the Catholic Church in the fight for land and in the constitution of this political force that resulted in the creation of the PT is evident in the face of a party that was created in the municipality in a triad together with the CPT and the Diocese. The cultural elements that traditional politics manage to leave in the municipality are highlighted during the fieldwork and included in our conclusions, since a division between ―those inside and outside‖ the municipality appears as an identifying element among ―those who are from inside and outside‖ the municipality appears at different times, loaded with different meanings, but effectively centered on whether or not it belongs to the effective struggle for municipal power.
