SUMMARY:

The dissertation aims to analyze the conditions for the creation of the Pastoral Land Commission (CPT) in Brazil, with emphasis on the municipality of Nova Iguaçu, state of Rio de Janeiro, in the mid-1970s, and to understand the forms of its action and the conditions of its continuity. We aim to analyze the changes that occurred within the Catholic Church based on the guidelines proposed by the Second Vatican Council and the General Latin American Episcopal Conferences and their impacts in Brazil, which allowed organizations like the CPT to be created and gain an important role together. to rural social movements. To achieve our objectives we sought, through documentary analysis and existing bibliography, to recompose the history of three land occupations in which the Pastoral Land Commission was actively engaged in the municipality of Nova Iguaçu: Mutirão Parque Estoril, Mutirão Nova Aurora and Campo Alegre
